for
Structure
Questions
•First, study the sentence.
•Then study each answer choice based on how well it completes the sentence.
•Do
not
try to
eliminate
incorrect
options
by
looking
only
at the
answers.
•Be
aware
that
in this
section
most
of the
items
will
require
you
to
identify
the
subject
or
the
verb
(or
both)
in the
correct
order
of subject
+ verb
(except
on
items
with
inverted
structure).
•Do
not
spend
too
much
time on
this
section.
Leave
enough
time for
the
Written
Expression
Section.
Characteristics of a Sentence
•A
sentence
can be formed
by
one
or
more clauses.
•Clauses can be independent and dependent/subordinate clauses. All sentences must have subject and verb.
•Sentences can be: simple, compound,
complex,
and compound-complex.
•A
simple sentence
is
formed
by
only
one
independent
clause.
