A pronoun is a word that is used in place of a noun.  A pronoun can refer to a person, place, thing, or idea.  The word that a pronoun refers to is called the antecedent. 

Following Downing (2006:56) pronoun is a a word that takes the place of a noun.

There are different kinds of pronouns.

1. Personal Pronoun 

Pronouns such as we, I, he, them, and it are called personal pronouns.  Personal pronouns have a variety of forms to indicate different persons, numbers, and cases. 

2. Subject Pronoun
The subject of a verb does the action of the verb. The personal pronouns I, you,
he, she, it, we and they can all be used as the subject of a verb.

3. Object Pronoun

An object pronoun is used as a direct object, an indirect object, or an object of a preposition.

4. Possesive Pronoun

A possessive pronoun is a personal pronoun used to show ownership or relationship.

5. Reflexive and Intensive pronoun

A reflexive pronoun refers to the subject and directs the action of the verb back to the subject.  Reflexive pronouns are necessary to the meaning of a sentence.

 An intensive pronoun emphasizes a noun or another pronoun in the same sentence.  Intensive pronouns are not necessary to the meaning of a sentence.

6. Interrogatives and Demonstratives

An interrogative pronoun is used to introduce a question. 

Demonstrative pronoun points out a person, place, thing, or idea.  This, that, these, and those.

Langkat Sultanate history-Reading Comprehension

  Sultanate of Langkat The Langkat Sultanate is a kingdom that used to rule in the Langkat Regency, North Sumatra now. The Langkat Sultanate became prosperous because of the opening of rubber plantations and the discovery of oil reserves in Pangkalan Brandan. The Langkat Sultanate is the oldest of the Malay monarchies in East Sumatra.
